Why now- is this political blackmail?

The decision to prosecute Dr Jeyakumar, two other PSM members, and a farmer at this time is truly baffling.

When Dr Jeyakumar and the three others were arrested in September 2023, Nurul Izzah, then Vice President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, called me. She was shocked by the arrests and said she would do her best to help stop the eviction and secure the release of those arrested. I wonder whether she has any comment today.

The arrests took place in Tambun, where the Prime Minister is the Member of Parliament.

So why now, more than two years later?

Is it an attempt to disrupt PSM’s election campaign in Rahang?

Is it meant to divert public attention from the impending Tabung Haji-related arrests?

Is it an attempt by the UMNO-led Perak state government to embarrass or undermine the Prime Minister?

The timing raises more questions than answers.

We call on the authorities to withdraw these charges. Pursuing a case after more than two years serves little public interest, wastes public resources, and risks making a mockery of the administration of justice.
