Is the postponement to stop Syed Saddiq from campaigning in Johor polls?

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is deeply shocked and disturbed by the Federal Court’s decision to conveniently postpone its ruling on the prosecution’s appeal against Syed Saddiq’s acquittal to a date just two days after the Johor state polls, which are scheduled for 11 July 2026.

Is this merely a coincidence, or a deliberate attempt to prevent Syed Saddiq from actively campaigning in the Johor polls? PSM has consistently maintained that the persecution of Syed Saddiq is politically motivated, especially since he refused to back the Sheraton Move, a treacherous political manoeuvre that betrayed the mandate of the people.

The delay and postponement of the case to 13 July, two days after the Johor polls is shocking, especially since Court of Appeal President Justice Abu Bakar Jais has confirmed that the panel is ready to deliver its decision. We are told that the postponement is due to the medical leave of one of the three judges on the panel.

PSM believes that this current postponement is unwarranted. If one judge is unable to attend, it is not beyond the judiciary’s capacity for one of the remaining judges to read the ruling that had already been prepared. The written judgment is ready, yet the court has chosen to adjourn.

This case has been delayed for far too long, and the excuses for the postponement have nothing to do with the accused, YB Syed Saddiq, who has always been ready to proceed as he wanted to clear his name . Yet today, the decision has once again been postponed, thereby effectively sidelining Saddiq from active involvement in party politics.

PSM calls on the judiciary to act with greater transparency and to explain why a case that is ready for judgment must be postponed for reasons that could and should have been accommodated. The people of Malaysia are watching and they want justice to carried out fairly.

Justice delayed is justice denied. Continued justice being delayed is the continued denial of justice.
